Day 4 ring: Rustic bouquet of flowers

Hello and good bye Sunday... time flies to nowhere but into making this ring.

I'm totally addicted to oxidization for the moment as you may have noticed! The contrast against the jade green, mother of pearl and some little texture here and there seem to marry so well together. And, I lovvvve the fact that I don't have to close the ring by soldering is another reason to make this ring. All the charms are held onto a jump ring that's soldered onto the ring itself... so it jiggles when you move.

Day 4 ring reminds me of succulent plants – I'm a sucker for succulents plants. Often it's simple and basic form, swollen fleshy appearance, the occasional flower, and not to mention their water saving feature is what really appeals to me. For someone who's short of a green thumb... tis the perfect match.

Now selling in my shop .

Day 3 ring: Read this

I was set to work like a dog on my bench all day today, but somehow I got distracted by an offer to discover a famous haberdashery store 'La Drougerie' in Les Halles, no regrets certainly AND yummy Japanese for lunch to boot miam miam!(french for yum yum). So oopsy daisy for the late Day 3 ring... but day hasn't ended hehe.

This ring's inspiration is ode to reading... not on the internet but from a book, the old fashion way – the way I like best and wish I had more time to do so these days. The ring was made from one strand of silver sheet, sliced a cm from each end from opposite sides, and then slotted into each other. Just like the way you would with a piece of paper.

Until tomorrow my blog pals sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!

Day 2 ring: It's alive!...

Day 2... my head is about to explode with ideas. So far, I'm having a lot more fun than anticipated. I found myself working with less boundaries experimenting with shapes, beads, patinas etc.

This form is akin to kina urchin. It's spiky antennas are held together on a jump ring that's soldered onto the ring itself so it changes positions when there's movement; though stiffly vogue-ing like Madonna... strike the pose! A little jade disc bead is added for contrast.

I love it so much that I'm in the process of making a necklace version for the shop. à demain ;)

Day 1 ring: An apple a day?

I'm oh so excited about starting/committing myself to the jeweler's idiom, 'A Ring a day'(ARAD or RAD?). Now now... put that phone down, it's about MAKING a ring that goes around your finger. Just as healthy as an apple except it does wonders to your left brain thus 'Healthy brain healthy body'.

Do I actually need more to do? hmmm no. Think of all the possibilities, it may even battle the artist's block. But let's just hope it won't do the opposite due to pressure.

Let's see, there are several existing 'A Ring a day' groups to be found in Flickr etc. as you may be familiar with it. You'll find that the choice of medium is endless so long as it can go around your finger. Search 'Ring a day' in Flickr and voila you'll see.

To end this note, here is my very first started on the 28th January 2010 made with sterling silver inspired by rain, tears, droplets alike. Now available in my shop.

Come hither Miners Lettuce - June

I don't think it's all that unusual for a jeweler to not be donned in his or her own jewelry or any at all, as I am one of those kind. Though an avid collector indeed I am... Oh yes, if you're good perhaps one day I'll do a show and tell.

But here's an insight to one which I may be collecting from very soon by Johnny Nino – a teacher of metal sculpture by day and a jeweler by night. Everything is hand fabricated from scratch with attention to detail and care needless to say; from the jewelry down to the boxes in which they come in, individually hand crafted from reclaimed wood. Other found materials are sometimes used... from pebbles, Ostrich egg to walnut shells etc! All very sleek, sexy, yet organic and above all eco-friendly.
